Trois concepts artistiques :
-Un code- barre. I 00.00.01 I 01.01.01 I est la trame du tableau, tel un programme type sur la base duquel Astier développe l'œuvre. Ce code-barre correspond à la date du premier instant du 21ème siècle : 00h 00min 01sec et 01/01/01, la symbolique d'autant plus forte que 010101 en binaire signifie 21. (Étrange ! La date du 1er jour du 21e siècle (01.01.01) exprimée en binaire (010101) est égale à... 21!)
-La 5ème dimension. C'est la mise de l'infini hors du périmètre même de la surface picturale traditionnelle. « Astier n'a-t-il pas inséré au centre de sa toile, un cadre ouvert vers l'extérieur, situé entre deux mondes –celui de l'histoire personnelle de l'artiste comme celui de l'histoire collective … de la communauté des hommes en marche ? » (Joseph-Paul Schneider, LuxemburgerWort 01.04.1994 galerie Lucien Schweitzer). Alexis Astier peint dans le cadre et à l'extérieur du cadre, les barrières sont tombées, la 5ème dimension est une invitation à la liberté et à la tolérance.
-La Supra-Surface (une surface en lévitation sur son support qui subit une sublimation visuelle ( passage d'une image réelle à une image subconsciente)) revendique l'absence de délimitation précise. Elle affirme la non-existence du support et l'existence d'une surface sans limite. 1.000 carrés phosphorescents (ou éléments) dont le premier a été posé à la première seconde du troisième millénaire sont posés sur un support en 3D. Dans l'obscurité ils apparaissent en lévitation pour former une nouvelle surface libérée : c'est la Supra-Surface où le spectateur devient acteur en entrant dans une représentation personnelle et mentale.
Three art concepts :
-A barcode. I 00.00.01 I 01.01.01 I forms the basis of the painting, like a program from which Alexis Astier develops the whole work. This barcode has a meaning : 00h 00min 00sec of 01/01/01, it is the very begin of the third millenium and the dawn of a new century, 010101 meaning 21 in binary.
-The 5th dimension. It aims at revealing the infinite which breaks the limits of the traditional frame. "Astier has inserted in the in the center of the canvas a frame that opens out towards the outside world, in between two worlds, that of the personal history of the artist and that of the constantly evolving collective history of men". Astier paints both within the frame and outside it, barriers have vanished, the 5th dimension is an invitation to freedom and tolerance.
-The Supra-Surface. Emphasize the absence of clear, definite limits. Stress the non-existence of the clear-cut painting support and the existence of an unlimited surface. 1.000 phosphorescent squares (called elements ) whose first was laid on the very first second of this millenium. Those elements are laid onto a three dimensional support and when plunged into darkness they glow and levitate forming a new emancipated surface: this is the Supra-Surface. There is no true interpretation, this experience allows the viewer to seize a unique mental representation.
